Golfers, how should I get started in golf?

6

NerdBoy asked:

Also, I have a bad swing when it comes to drivers, what should I do to improve my swing? How much should I spend on a set of clubs to learn with? I have a putter right now that I use for practicing putting, but I only have a little putting mat. What putting mat would you suggest to get some real practice putting? I’ve been wanting to play golf since I was 12 and I am now 20, I really want to play.
I want to take lessons but I can’t really afford them right now. How much do they usually cost though?

    Start swinging better with SwingPRO

go to a golf court and check up on others swings! it is not that you are going to do or copy what they are doing but watch them just to have an idea. then put it in practice. Golf is not easy, it looks easy but its not, you have to be strong and precise!!
If that doesn’t work, why you don’t take some classes. I think they are pretty expensive, but if u really want this, you should do it.
    Good luck!

Well, my old son. Go get some lessons from your local pro shop at your local Golf club. He is in the best position to advise you on everything you need to know to get started.

Enjoy your golf – its a strange, frustrating, but great game.

practice, practice, practice… Work on the drivers 1st. Goto driving ranges. Buy a cheap set like at Walmart or something, don’t over spend on the 1st set, you just wanna practice. If you have a yard with enough space you can always use whiffle balls to practice with aswell.

    1. get a mat that has a fine texture to putt with
    2. Driving: Keep you legs somewhat close together, line up with the ball, look at the ball (never take your eyes off it), Let your arms and shoulders take the brunt of the swing, Don’t use you legs for power, most people are not Adam Sandler.
Use a tee for the ball aswell.
    3. Get a glove for extra control.

Have fun, it’s a fun sport. PS if you are left handed like I’am you’ll see allot of people at courses trying not to watch you. They say I can mess their game up LOL. But I can hit farther hahahahaha

Prices can range form about $25 per session to $100.00+ some can charge by the hour and so on. Really depends on the quality of the course itself, and the trainners ability to teach. again good Luck

ohh and don’t forget to practice with the irons aswell, this way you can get a feel on how the ball will react to your swings, then you can move up to the SW PW and try them out too. Fun Fun Fun

When I started golfing I had a hard time learning to improve because I didn’t understand the terminology used to describe all the nuances of the swing. There are plenty of good books and training videos available, new and used. Maybe even at the library. After understanding the lingo, what helped my driving swing was a laser trainer. It had a laser beam at the head end and another at the **** end of the club. It revealed my swing plane at the take away and the top of my swing and then the plane getting back to the ball. I was able to ingrain that in my swing muscles, take it to the range and literally smash the ball at will. Now I have no doubt about making good contact, just an occasional slice with a good draw. The putting you can practice at any golf course or driving range. Explore and observe. Have fun and talk the talk.

save your money until you have enough for about six lessons, say one a week for six weeks and practice, practice, practice.
